This painting by Clifford W. Ashley shows crew members cutting and hoisting a large "blanket piece" of blubber aboard the whaleship to be processed into oil. Sharks can be seen in the water, attracted by the blood of the dead whale. This painting was one of a series of drawings and paintings Mr. Ashley made in 1905 from his experiences on a whaling voyage aboard the bark Sunbeam. Oil on canvas.
